COF JOURNAL / DECISION GUIDE

ATAS, Bookmap, TradingView: choose by the question

Compare ATAS, Bookmap and TradingView by the question you need to answer. Check data feeds, costs and availability.

Start with the data question

Before choosing a screen, define the question: reading price, observing trades or studying an order book. Tools may not cover the same markets or feeds. Check the data source, coverage and provider terms. An impressive interface does not establish the observation’s relevance.

Separate licences and feeds

Software access does not guarantee access to every data source. Ask about required subscriptions, user classifications and delayed-data behaviour. History and replay should remain identified as such. Do not confuse one market’s volume with all instruments sharing a similar name.

Explain the observation

A useful exercise describes what the screen shows and what it cannot establish. COF journal archives offer order-flow readings while retaining publication context. Check current terms with software publishers before buying. No software guarantees profitable decisions.

Start with a work question

Before comparing interfaces, write the question to answer and the data required. Reviewing price analysis is a different task from examining an execution feed. A software name does not establish that the needed feed is included in the subscription being considered.

Then compare the tool's documents, the data provider's terms and the relevant account conditions. This guide is not an exhaustive inventory of current ATAS, Bookmap or TradingView features. The names organise the question without a ranking or a claim of local availability.

Check an example before paying

A sample task completed in a trial version can clarify the need. It remains separate from live execution evidence and does not, alone, justify another subscription. Keep the limitations and dependencies discovered.

Your verification grid

ItemDocument or check to request
QuestionDescribe a specific task: price history, executions or one market's order book.
InstrumentIdentify venue, contract and data source rather than only a familiar symbol.
FeedAsk whether data is live, delayed, historical or simulated.
LicenceSeparate software subscription, data subscription and broker connection.
ExerciseTry a documentary task during a trial before inferring a purchase requirement.

Practical questions

Does the same symbol show the same data in every tool?

Do not assume so. Check the exact instrument, venue, source and timezone. Similar displays may describe different objects or periods. This guide does not certify each vendor's current features.

Which tool should I buy first?

This guide prescribes no purchase. Start with a verifiable question, then read data and licence requirements for the contemplated version. If an existing resource answers the question, the software name does not establish a need for another subscription.
