COF JOURNAL / DECISION GUIDE

Risk management: prepare questions before a trade

Prepare questions about potential losses, execution and stopping before a trade. An educational framework without personal advice.

Start with exposure

Identify the product, currency, leverage terms and other positions sharing exposure. Available account money is not money you must commit. Read risk alongside costs, market changes and product constraints rather than position size alone.

Plan for incidents

Write what you can check when prices gap, a connection fails or an order lacks confirmation. A stop instruction depends on execution terms; do not treat it as insurance. Keep a way to retrieve documents and contact the provider without disclosing secrets.

Make the decision explainable

An educational framework should explain reasons to act, wait or decline. This guide sets no amount suitable for your circumstances. COF resources help understanding and documentation without personalised advice. If essential information is missing, record the absence instead of replacing it with certainty.

Describe what could make the scenario wrong

An educational review can start with invalidation conditions, execution assumptions and events outside the scenario. Readers should understand that a displayed instruction and obtained execution are different observations.

Also examine dependencies: data, connection, third-party service and ability to detect errors. A “controlled risk” label without explicit rules and limitations does not make the method reviewable. This page neither calculates an amount to commit nor proposes an order suited to a personal situation.

Reach a conclusion before acting

The file can identify what is understood, what remains unknown and which documents to reread. Waiting remains a possible decision. No tool, warning or procedure in this guide removes the risk of loss.

Your verification grid

ItemDocument or check to request
ProductRead exposure, currency, any leverage and contractual conditions.
DependenciesIdentify related instruments, data, connection and third-party services.
InvalidationWrite what makes a scenario wrong or incomplete before the outcome.
IncidentSeparate instruction sent, confirmation received and evidenced execution.
RecoursePlan how to retrieve statements, rules and provider contacts.

Practical questions

Is a stop insurance against every loss?

Do not present it that way. Triggering and execution depend on product and market conditions. Read what the agreement provides for rapid changes or unavailable prices without inferring a guaranteed amount.

What amount does this guide say to commit?

It prescribes no amount. The guide organises general questions; it does not assess your circumstances, loss capacity or suitability of a transaction. Missing information remains a limitation, and waiting or declining remains possible.
